Paul Hawken is recognized globally as a prominent advocate for corporate ecological reform. His influential writings and initiatives have inspired numerous CEOs to revamp their companies' internal cultures and business philosophies toward environmental restoration.
As the founder of Project Drawdown, a non-profit dedicated to researching when and how global warming can be reversed, Hawken has been at the forefront of mapping and modeling one hundred substantive technological, social, and ecological solutions to global warming.
In addition to his work with Project Drawdown, Hawken has founded several ventures, including Smith & Hawken, Datafusion, a knowledge synthesis software company, and some of the first natural food companies in the U.S that exclusively used sustainable agricultural methods.
Paul Hawken is the author of multiple articles, scientific papers, and eight books including "The Next Economy" (1983), "The Ecology of Commerce" (1993), "Blessed Unrest" (2007), and "Drawdown" (2017). "The Ecology of Commerce" was selected as the best college text on business and the environment by professors in 67 business schools in 1998.
His books have been published in over 50 countries and translated into 27 languages. Hawken also serves as co-chair of The Natural Step-International, a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to teaching and supporting environmental systems thinking in corporations, cities, and governments.
In 2019, the National Council for Science and the Environment awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to science, service, and leadership.
