Paul Yip  

Director of Centre for Suicide Research & Prevention at The University of Hong Kong; Professor of Population Health

Paul Yip is the founding director of the Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention at the University of Hong Kong, and a professor of Population Health in the university's Department of Social Work and Social Administration. His interests include suicide prevention, population health and poverty research.

Yip serves as the secretary general of the Asian Population Association and the research chair of the Family Planning Association of Hong Kong. He was a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit and a member of the Hong Kong government's Steering Committee on Population Policy.

Yip received the Stengel Research Award in 2012 for his contributions to suicide-prevention work, and he received outstanding student supervisor and researcher awards from the University of Hong Kong in 2011 and 2009.

He has published more than 400 research papers relating to population health. His expertise is in population and mental-health research, poverty alleviation and program evaluation.
