Paula P. Schnurr, PhD  

Co-Founder & Deputy Executive Director at the National Center for PTSD; Professor of Psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth

Paula P. Schnurr, Ph.D., is co-founder and Executive Director of the National Center for PTSD. She is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, and her research focuses on the treatment of PTSD and the longitudinal study of the effects of traumatic exposure on physical and mental health.

She has written or co-edited over 250 chapters, books, and journal articles and has won several awards for her research and contributions to the field of traumatic stress studies. Some of her works include "Trauma and Health: Physical Health Consequences of Exposure to Extreme Stress," "Caring for Veterans With Deployment-Related Stress Disorders: Iraq, Afghanistan, and Beyond," and most recently, "Handbook of PTSD: Science and Practice."

Dr. Schnurr is the editor of the Clinician's Trauma Update Online, former editor of the Journal of Traumatic Stress, past president of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and past chair of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Psychological Science.
