Peggy Fleming

Former Professional Skater, Skating Commentator for ABC & Breast Cancer Survivor

She recently faced perhaps her biggest challenge of all when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She successfully battled the disease and has now become one of the foremost speakers on the subject addressing the issue with an intelligence and compassion seen in few speakers.

The passion and drive Peggy Fleming brings to her efforts for breast cancer awareness and education are similar to her pursuits in skating. Her graceful style led to five U.S. Titles, three World Titles and an Olympic gold medal in 1968. Her triumphant Olympic win remains indelibly etched in the minds of all who watched as ABC televised the Winter Games live and in color for the first time. Fleming's overwhelming victory brought home the United States' only gold medal.

Due to her enduring popularity and the universal appeal of figure skating, Fleming remains the sport's most graceful symbol and most identifiable personality. In 1994, for its 40th anniversary issue, Sports Illustrated named Peggy one of its "40 For the Ages – 40 individuals who have most significantly altered or elevated the world of sports in the last 40 years." She recently graced the cover of People Magazine along with fellow breast cancer survivors Olivia Newton-John and Shirley Temple Black.

Fleming's 18 years as an on-air analyst for ABC Sports have taken her to national, world and Olympic competitions where she continues to provide warm and knowledgeable commentary to an ever-growing audience. She has now turned her popularity into a platform for addressing audiences around the country about the importance of women taking charge of their own health and breast cancer awareness. Her new book, The Long Program: Skating Toward Life's Victories, was recently published.

Fleming is an eagerly sought-after speaker for a variety of groups - from major corporations and top universities to health care and women's organizations.
