Pete Cashmore

Entrepreneur & Founder of Mashable

Pete Cashmore is the founder and former CEO of Mashable, one of the largest and most popular destinations for digital, social media, and technology news and information with more than 50 million page views per month. Mashable has been named a must-read site by both Fast Company and PC Magazine and is ranked as the most influential media outlet by Klout.

Working as a web technology consultant in mid 2005, Pete Cashmore founded Mashable from an unlikely location: a small town in the north of Scotland. Focusing on up-to-the-minute news on social networks and new websites, it rapidly grew to be one of the top 10 blogs in the world, according to the blog ranking service Technorati.

The site's writers have been quoted in The New York Times, The Washington Post and hundreds of technology publications. Pete was selected as a Top 25 Forbes Web Celeb in 2007, while Mashable was chosen as a must-read site by both Fast Company and PC Magazine. In mid 2007, BusinessWeek featured Mashable as one of the worlds most profitable blogs.

Cashmore was named one of Time Magazines 100 Most Influential People in 2012. He was featured on Forbes 30 under 30 list, named one of Ad Ages 2011 influencers, and was named a Young Global Leader by The World Economic Forum.

Mashable was sold to Ziff Davis for 50 million dollars in 2017. In November of 2018, after his social media profiles were edited to include "Now: Taking some time off and working on something new," it was announced that Cashmore would be leaving Mashable at the end of the year.
