He lives in the Washington, D.C. area, teaches in Ohio during the fall semester, and is director of the law school’s Washington, D.C. summer program.
Swire was special assistant to the president for economic policy from 2009 until August 2010, serving in the National Economic Council under Lawrence Summers. In addition to this government service, Swire’s numerous professional activities include: author of two books and many law review articles and policy writings; member of the Obama-Biden Transition; testimony before seven congressional committees; and regular interviews in national press and electronic media. He is a graduate of Princeton and the Yale Law School, and studied at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles on a Rotary Foundation Scholarship.
