Czech professional tennis player Petra Kvitova is most well known for her powerful left-handed shots. She has won seven WTA singles titles and has a career high ranking of World No. 2 and is currently ranked World No. 3. Petra won the 2011 Wimbledon Championships and the 2011 WTA Tour Championships singles title, and became the first Grand Slam event winner born in the 1990’s and is the third player to win the WTA Championships in her first attempt. Petra Kvitova has also reached the semifinals of the 2010 Wimbledon Championships and the 2012 Australian Open.

At the beginning of the 2012 season, Petra Kvitova was hugely expected to reach the World No. 1 ranking. Instead of trying to defend her title, she participated in the Hopman Cup exhibition with Tomas Berdych. They went on to win the title, beating France in the final. In the 2012 Australian Open, Petra defeated Vera Dushevina, Carla Suarez Navarro, Maria Kirilenko, Ana Ivanovic, and Sara Errani to advance to the semifinals—where she lost to Maria Sharapova in three sets.
