Award-Winning Author & Innovation Coach; Former CTO at Hewlett-Packard (HP)

Phil McKinney, retired in 2011 as the CTO for Hewlett-Packards (HP) Personal Systems Group where he was responsible for long-range strategic planning and research and development (R&D) for all of the company's PC product lines, including displays, mobile devices, notebooks, desktops, and workstations. In addition, Phil led the Innovation Program Office, which was chartered to identify, incubate and launch new businesses for HP. After leaving HP, Phil took over as CEO of CableLabs, the global R&D and innovation lab of the cable industry funded by more than 60 leading cable operators from 35 countries. Phil is an award-winning innovator of technologies and products used by 100's of millions of consumers and businesses worldwide.

McKinney is also the author of Beyond The Obvious – a book that shares how Phil used innovation and creativity to achieve personal and professional success. The book has won multiple awards and recognitions and has been translated into Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Russian. He also hosts the award-winning nationally syndicated radio show and podcast, Killer Innovations.

On a limited basis, Phil provides executive and organizational coaching and mentoring on innovation, creativity, culture, technology, and products.

His recognition includes Vanity Fair naming him the “The Innovation Guru”, MSNBC and Fox Business calling him "The Gadget Guy"​ and the San Jose Mercury News dubbing him the "chief seer"​. He has been credited with forming and leading multiple teams that FastCompany and BusinessWeek have listed multiple times on their annual list of the “50 Most Innovative”.
