Art and Architecture Critic, The Washington Post

Philip Kennicott is the senior art and architecture critic at The Washington Post, where he has been on staff since 1999, first as classical music critic, then as culture critic. A regular contributor to Gramophone and Opera News, he was previously a contributing editor at The New Republic. Kennicott has also been chief classical music critic for the Detroit News and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where he also wrote editorials.

He is the author of "Counterpoint: A Memoir of Bach and Mourning," and his essay, “Smuggler,” was anthologized in the 2015 volume of Best American Essays and a finalist for the National Magazine Award. A two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist, Kennicott won the 2013 Pulitzer for Criticism.
