A beautiful storm lead to a designers tale....

In 1997, Harris was a junior in college and an avid music lover. He was inspired by the dramatic, gritty and raw music that was Hip Hop in the late 1990's. Phillip knew early on that entertainment design was what interested him most. He enjoyed telling the unique stories that would be a part of the artist's visual story and extending their music personas with his visual ability. Harris decided that he wanted to work with the biggest and most popular record company at the time - Def Jam Records. He obtained the companies phone number from a public listing, called the main business line and explained why he was the best suited to intern with the record company giant. Phillip subsquently was granted an audience with the head of new media for the company. However due to school scheduling conflicts the internship couldn't happen. During Phillip's meeting the head of media for Roc-a-fella Records Garvin Stewart showed up early for a meeting with the Def Jam exec and watched while Phillip presented his portfolio. Garvin was throughly impressed. Garvin immediately stepped in to offer Phillip an alternative internship option. "You could intern with us, over at Roc-a-fella" he suggested. Phillip quickly said "Really - that would be great!". Garvin introduced Phillip to recording artist Jay-Z and partner Damon Dash. The duo immediatley tasked Harris with building a dynamic content destination for their Multi-platinum record label. The design and development project spawned an 8 year business relationship which allowed Phillip the opportunity to develop and maintain 3 iterations of the multi-platinum record companys website and multiple webby and SOHH.com awards and nominations. Phillip helped to create a consistent brand continuity across all of their media divisions which included Roc-a-wear clothing, and Jay-Zs 4040 club. Subsequently, Phillip's work within the Recording industry lead to other projects outside of Music including interactive properties and applications for Interactive ONeAOL, NBC, HBO Home Video, BET Networks, Film-maker John Singleton, Olympic and WNBA star Maion Jones and ex-olympic star Tim Montgomery.
