Tony Nominated Actress & Singer Known for "Hamilton"

Phillipa Soo is best known for originating the role of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton in Broadway’s critically acclaimed show "Hamilton." The role garnered her the Lucille Lortel Award in 2015 for Lead Actress in a Musical during the show’s Off-Broadway, sold-out run at The Public Theater as well as earning her a 2016 Tony Award nomination. Phillipa earned a 2021 Emmy Nomination in the category of “Supporting Actress, Limited Series, Movie or Anthology” for the film version of Hamilton, which premiered in July 2020 and is available to stream now on Disney+.

On television, Soo can be seen in Hulu’s “Dopesick” opposite Michael Keaton, Peter Sarsgaard, and Kaitlyn Dever and in AppleTV+’s “Shining Girls,” a new series based on the 2013 best-selling novel by Lauren Beukes. Soo portrays the intelligent and sure-footed Jin-Sook, who works in the research department at the Adler Planetarium. She stars opposite Elisabeth Moss, Wagner Moura, and Jamie Bell. Additionally, she is in the film adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestseller “One True Loves” opposite Simu Liu and Luke Bracey.

In 2020, Soo voiced a lead role in Netflix’s animated feature film Over the Moon, starred in the Selena Gomez-produced The Broken Hearts Gallery, and in Disney+’s animated feature film The One and Only Ivan. She made her feature film debut in Fabien Constant’s Here and Now opposite Sarah Jessica Parker.

On stage, Phillipa could most recently be seen starring in the world premiere of Shaina Taub’s musical "Suffragis," now titled "Suffs," at The Public Theater, directed by Leigh Silverman. Phillipa played ‘Cinderella’ in the James Lapine & Stephen Sondheim classic production "Into the Woods" opposite Brian D’Arcy James, Patina Miller, Sara Bareilles, Gavin Creel and Joshua Henry. In 2018, she co-starred on Broadway opposite Uma Thurman in the play "The Parisian Woman," and in 2017, Soo played the title role in the Broadway musical "Amelie," based on the Academy Award-winning 2001 French film of the same name.

She is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Drama.
