Founder & Executive Chairperson of African Fashion International

Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe is the founder and Executive Chairperson of African Fashion International (AFI).

AFI is a fashion company that specializes in developing and promoting African Fashion Designers and retailing African Fashion brands. The company owns and hosts the continent’s premier Fashion weeks in Johannesburg and Cape Town, as well as creating a retail opportunity in these cities for local designers. Under Moloi-Motsepe’s leadership, AFI has expanded its reach and business operations beyond South Africa, and offers designers from the African continent a promotion and trade platform. She is committed and passionate about promoting African culture through its distinctive fashion aesthetic, as well as bringing a different perspective to the global fashion market. Dr. Moloi- Motsepe is Co-founder and Vice Chairperson of the Motsepe Foundation. She and her husband, Patrice Motsepe are the first couple from the African continent to join the Warren Buffet/Bill and Melinda Gates Giving pledge initiative.

Dr. Moloi-Motsepe’s philanthropic vision is guided by the Global Goals, and her initiatives focus on community and societal development. Through the Foundation she grants access to education, resources and skills to empower the youth; launched a Girls In STEM programme to create a pipeline of women within these industries; hosts frequent dialogues for building awareness and challenging patriarchy to empower women and men; and supports social entrepreneurs through partnerships with the Schwab Foundation and Harvard Kennedy School.

Dr. Moloi-Motsepe is a qualified medical doctor with special interest in women’s health. Although she does not actively practice medicine, she channels her passion for women’s health and women’s issues in impactful ways through the various initiatives the foundation champions.

In addition to her involvement with the family foundation, she sits on the board of Synergos, as well as WEF’s Global Agenda Council on population growth. She is a member of The Harvard Kennedy Women’s Leadership Board (WAPPP) and The International Women Forum of South Africa (IWFSA). She is also past president of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA).

Dr. Moloi-Motsepe’s role in the development of emerging markets has given her a legion of supporters in the country and she has received wide recognition on the continent and internationally. Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe has been featured in various publications and broadcasts including Forbes Africa, Leading Women panel discussion hosted by CNBC Africa. She was invited to speak at various high profile places and events such as the International Herald Tribune Luxury Conference, the World Economic Forum, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and the Harvard Business School.

She is wife to businessman, Patrice Motsepe and mother to three sons. She loves traveling, reading, and watching football with her family's team, Mamelodi Sundowns.
