Prof. Dr. Sweder van Wijnbergen

Sweder van Wijnbergen received a masters in Physics from Utrecht University (1975) and in Econometrics from Rotterdam Erasmus University (1977), and received his PhD in Economics (1980) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA. He worked at the World Bank in Washington DC, where his last position was Chief Economist for Central and Eastern Europe (1989-1993).

He was professor at the London School of Economics until 1997 and Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands from 1997 until 2000. He has extensively advised companies and governments in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America on issues ranging from privatisation to macroeconomic policy and tax reform. He is founder and former CEO of Infomedics NV, an internet intermediary in the Dutch healthcare sector, and professor of Economics at the University of Amsterdam. He has published extensively in the areas of international economics and public finance. Prof. Van Wijnbergen is available for lectures and as chairman and discussion leader. His topics are primarily economic issues and competition.
