Punkie Johnson

SNL Cast Member & Stand-Up Comedian

Punkie Johnson is a Los Angeles-based comedian, writer and actor from New Orleans, Louisiana. Starting her career as an emcee, Johnson is now a paid regular and favorite at The World Famous Comedy Store in Hollywood, where she is known as one of the most fearless, ruthless, and rawest forces on the scene. In 2020, Johnson was cast as a featured player on Saturday Night Live, starting in its forty-sixth season. Johnson is the eighth Black female cast member in the show's history and the second Black LGBT woman to be a cast member.

Her credits include Netflix’s Space Force, HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show, CBS’ Ghosts, Bill Burr Presents: The Ringers, and the upcoming feature film Bottoms. Johnson also stars in the new season of HBO Max’s Love Life, and was called “a particular stand out” by TIME Magazine. She has also served as a writer & consultant for Peacock’s Queer as Folk reboot. Johnson’s comedy is direct and honest, and she pulls from her personal life to get big laughs.

Johnson was a New Face at the Just for Laughs Festival in 2019 and is a proud paid regular at the World Famous Comedy Store in Hollywood. After starting there as a server, she worked her way up to getting picked for open mic nights, eventually landing a spot on stage. She is currently working on her own podcast, Swamp Education, offering unsolicited opinions about life and relationships.
