Guerdley Cajus is a Haitian American born Dancer and Choreographer based in NYC. Brought up on the sounds of Haitian Kompa music and 90’s Hip Hop, Guerdley organically developed an attraction toward dance and the great role it played in building community and expressing femininity. Her first experiences dancing began while she was in high school, where she joined the dance company “Jam’nastics”and formally fell in love with the world of performance, teaching and choreographing. After high school Guerdley moved to NYC to attend Pace University, where she studied Sociology, Women's Studies, and Journalism. After college, she worked as a Freelance Journalist but her passion for dance eventually drove her back to the dance studio. There she furthered her dance training under the tutelage of heels dance legends such as Dana Foglia, Danielle Polanco, Aisha Francis among many others. This passion paved the way to a career in dance, where Guerdley has taught and performed overseas, danced for XBOX Dance Central 3, has had her choreography featured in the Nasty Woman's Art Exhibit, the play For Colored Girls Rainbow Remix, performed at the US Open, Hot97's On the Reggae Tip Live, VH1's Big Morning Buzz, Music Choice, Good Morning America and the MTV Music Awards. While performing and training, Guerdley also works as a Dance Teaching Artist in NYC public schools where she teaches Hip Hop and Urban Social Dance. As awesome as these experiences have been, Queen Moves is her crowning accomplishment because it allows her to create work for women that's empowering and purpose driven while still being true to her craft, which she believes is her ultimate calling. Through Queen Moves she is living her truth.
BRAT is a pro choreographer/dancer with Grenadian Nevisian roots living in NYC. Traveling to the West Indies and back again, she developed a love for dance from going to Carnival and whining up her waist with family at parties. Realizing that her daughter had clearly been bitten by the dancing bug, her mother enrolled her in whatever dance program was available. BRAT started out with Harlem School of the Arts and various other after school programs. Eventually she landed a scholarship to Dance Theater of Harlem's Community Program where she realized Dance was what she wanted to do with her life. This love led her to attend Columbia College in Chicago which helped her evolve greatly as a dancer. Witnessing performances by companies like Urban Bush Women and Quasar profoundly changed the way she viewed the way one could use movement from their cultural and technical background to share a story. In addition to her choreographic epiphanies, BRAT added more color to her movement palate by studying techniques like Bhyrata Natyam, Contact Improvisation, Capoeira, Burlesque, Aerial Dance, and Breakbone. While living in Chicago, BRAT was homesick and wanted to connect with her West Indian roots. This longing eventually promoted BRAT to enter the Midwest Dancehall Queen Competition. So she did and she won. This victory gave her the opportunity to compete in the International Dancehall Queen competition and has open many doors, like performing at Coachella, Hot97 On the Reggae Tip Live, The US Open, and VMAS with Rihanna, where BRAT has been able to showcase her mélange styles. This victory has blessed her with many opportunities, Queen Moves being the most recent.
