Alexander Bentley is a professor of anthropology at University of Tennessee at Knoxville, as well as the head of that department. He is also a co-author of "The Importance of Small Decisions," a book in which anthropologists discuss different types of decision-making and their outcomes throughout history.

As a researcher, Bentley's work involves interdisciplinary analysis of culture change, past and present. This involves two main methodologies, one in analysis of isotopes in archaeological skeletal material, and the other in computational social science.
