Rabah Arezki is a senior economist at the International Monetary Fund Research Department and a nonresident fellow at the Brookings Institution. During his career at the IMF, he worked in the Fiscal Affairs Department, the Middle East and Central Asia and African Departments at the IMF.

He led and participated in surveillance, program, training and technical assistance IMF missions including in West Africa, the Gulf Cooperation Council, Iraq, Liberia and Maghreb countries. He has delivered lectures in various academic institutions in United States, Europe, Africa and the Middle East and various IMF Institute training programs in Austria and throughout Africa. He has written on natural resources, governance, development, macroeconomics, and finance. He has published widely in academic and other journals, including the Economic Journal, the Journal of International Economics and the European Economic Review. He has also been cited in leading magazines and newspapers, including The Economist, Financial Times and the Wall Street Journal.

He has co-edited two books published by the International Monetary Fund. The first is entitled Beyond the Curse: Policies to Harness the Power of Natural Resources published in 2011. The second co-edited book on Commodity Price Volatility and Inclusive Growth in Low-Income Countries published in 2012. He is currently co-editing a special issue of the Journal of International Money and Finance entitled Understanding International Commodity Price Fluctuations. He obtained his PhD from the European University Institute, Italy.
