Rabbi David Blumenfeld was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary and served as spiritual leader of Congregation Tifereth Israel in Glen Cove, New York for 12 years.

Prior to that he served two years as a chaplain, with the rank of captain in the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Eustis, Virginia.

A graduate of Brandeis University, Rabbi Blumenfeld studied Comparative Religion at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He received his PhD degree from New York University in the field of Near Eastern Languages and Literature. In 1986, he was awarded a Doctor of Divinity degree, "honoris causa", from the Jewish Theological Seminary. During the same year, he received a degree in Museum Studies from New York University.

Dr. David L. Blumenfeld served with distinction as the Founding Executive Director of the New York Holocaust Memorial Commission from 1983 to 1989. His scholarship and academic accomplishments earned him an appointment as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Hebraic Studies at Long Island University.

He has lectured internationally, served as scholar-in-residence in numerous congregations and is the author of Torah Sparks, a widely read weekly commentary on Sabbath Torah readings. Recently, he has been invited by many groups to speak on his daughter Laura Blumenfeld’s best seller non-fiction book Revenge – A Story of Hope in which he is a central character.

Rabbi Blumenfeld served as the Director of the Department of Services to Affiliated Congregations at the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

He and his wife, Dr. Frances Blumenfeld, live in New Rochelle, NY and are the proud parents of four children and numerous grandchildren.
