Rachel Maddow

Host of "The Rachel Maddow Show" on MSNBC & NYT Bestselling Author; Podcast Host of "Bagman" & "Ultra"

Rachel Maddow is host of the multiple Emmy Award-winning “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC. “The Rachel Maddow Show” features Maddow’s take on the biggest stories of the day, political and otherwise, including lively debates with guests from all sides of the issues, in-depth analysis, and stories no other shows in cable news will cover.

Maddow is the author of several books, including “Drift: The Unmooring of American Military Power,” which debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestsellers list in March 2012, "Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth" which won a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album in 2021, and "Bag Man: The Wild Crimes, Audacious Cover-up, and Spectacular Downfall of a Brazen Crook in the White House." Her fourth book, "Prequel: An American Fight Against Fascism," was published in October 2023. “The Rachel Maddow Show” was the most successful show launch in MSNBC history, immediately boosting ratings in its time period when it debuted in September 2008.

In October 2018, Maddow launched the podcast "Bag Man," produced with MSNBC and focusing on the 1973 political scandal surrounding Vice President Spiro Agnew. The podcast was so successful that a film adaptation is currently in production, with Maddow serving as an executive producer. In October 2022, she launched another podcast series with MSNBC called "Ultra," which chronicles U.S. right-wing extremism during the 1940s and World War II. Steven Spielberg's company has optioned the film rights to the "Ultra" series.

Throughout her career, Maddow has been honored with numerous awards. Notably, she received the Interfaith Alliance's Faith and Freedom Award and the 2012 John Steinbeck Award from the Center for Steinbeck Studies at San Jose University. She also won the 2023 Hillman Prize for Broadcast Journalism for her podcast, "Ultra," and the 2020 Alfred I. duPont–Columbia University Award for her podcast, "Bagman." Maddow was named an MSNBC political analyst in January of 2008. She first gained national prominence as a host on Air America Radio, where she worked from its inception in 2004.

Maddow received a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Stanford University and a doctorate in political science at Oxford University, which she attended on a Rhodes Scholarship. She splits her time between Manhattan, New York, and West Cummington, Massachusetts, with her partner, artist Susan Mikula.

Rachel Maddow just made a convincing case for why Bernie Sanders could be president
After running away with the New Hampshire Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday, Bernie Sanders in his victory speech made the case for why he can win a general election.
