Rainbow Rowell
Young Adult & Adult Contemporary Author Known for "Eleanor & Park," "Fangirl" "Carry On" & "Slow Dance"
Rainbow Rowell transitioned from a career in column writing and ad copywriting to become a highly regarded author. Rowell's debut as an author came in 2011 with "Attachments," which was lauded by Kirkus Reviews as one of the outstanding debuts of the year. Since then, she has authored numerous novels, with particular recognition for her young adult and adult contemporary books such as "Eleanor & Park," "Fangirl," and "Carry On." Her work has expanded to include a four-part manga series adaptation of "Fangirl," and the completion of the Simon Snow trilogy, consisting of "Carry On," "Wayward Son," and "Any Way the Wind Blows."
Rowell's prowess extends beyond just novels, with her works being adapted into different mediums. Notably, she wrote the screenplay and is the executive producer for the film adaptation of "Eleanor & Park," a project undertaken by Picturestart and Plan B. Her creative versatility was further displayed when she authored two young adult graphic novels, the first of which was illustrated by Faith Erin Hicks and released in 2019. In addition to novels and graphic novels, Rowell has also written for Marvel Comics, contributing to series such as "Runaways" and "She-Hulk."
Rowell's upcoming projects continue to illustrate her diverse range as an author. Her latest adult novel, "Slow Dance," was released in summer 2024, adding another stellar work to her portfolio. Her work has attracted significant critical acclaim, with both "Eleanor & Park" and "Fangirl" being named among the best young adult fiction by The New York Times. Such recognition underscores Rowell's distinct voice and storytelling ability in the literary world, as well as her capacity to engage and captivate audiences across various formats and genres.
