Rami Kashou was born in Jerusalem on May 11, 1976 and raised in Ramallah where he began his design journey during his early teens. His mother and friends used to bring Kashou along during their regular visits to the local seamstress. He would create designs for each lady inspired by her latest fabric purchase and the creations came to life.
Upon arriving in the U.S. in 1996, Kashou worked in retail for several years. This eventually led him to a buying and merchandising position at a well-known boutique in Los Angeles. After a stint of traveling to Europe as a buyer, Kashou bit the bullet and purchased two sewing machines. He vigorously studied pattern making from the local vintage boutiques. “I would buy a piece and take it apart and inspect it, then I would learn.” Kashou said. After three years of self-education, he began creating what would later be known as the “One of a Kind” collection that was picked up by various notable Los Angeles boutiques. His early clients were Erykah Badu and Jennifer Lopez.
A seasoned veteran of runway shows, Kashou has shown his devotion and passion for poetic and feminine designs, and as a result has become one of the most coveted runway shows to attend during Los Angeles fashion week, attracting celebrities such as Jessica Alba and Christina Aguilera. Kashou showcased his finale collection in Bryant Park as a finalist and runner up during his appearance on Bravo's television hit show Project Runway Season 4 where his passion for fluid draping was embraced by many women around the globe including Queen Rania of Jordan.
Kashou is currently based in New York where he finds inspiration in his roots and strives to pay homage to his homeland through social impact Palestinian embroidery design projects that are imbued with personal meaning, reflecting his childhood memories and culture.
Known for his dramatic red carpet gowns, Kashou has draped the silhouettes of celebrities and trendsetters such as Penelope Cruz, Dita Von Teese, Heidi Klum, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian. His designs have graced the pages of the New York Times Magazine, Vogue, Women’s Wear Daily, Interview, Elle, In Style, and Flaunt amongst many others.
