Ramona Pierson first built careers in aviation, neuropsychology and software development. While studying and examining and learning the details of such diverse disciplines, she became interested in the act of learning itself. She volunteered in a San Francisco school while working full-time in Silicon Valley and, just like that, a fourth career was born.

Pierson completed a master’s degree in education in California, then headed north to take the reins of the education technology department for Seattle Public Schools. She combined her passions and expertise to create software that, in a nutshell, helps teachers teach better. In 2007, Ramona launched a private company with the same goal. SynapticMash Inc. was launched to revolutionize the learning management and assessment systems in education.

A self-described “data geek,” Pierson contemplated ways to push education and technology through a paradigm shift — to move from web 2.0 to web 3.0. Now the chief science officer at Promethean, Ramona continues to study the act of learning and to explore ways to make our education system work better for students.

Ramona joined Price Waterhouse Coopers in 2019 to innovate next generation solutions in computing, automation, and AI to advance the enterprise and transform workplace learning at scale. Ramona joined Amazon in 2017 to bring ML solutions to transform enterprise learning. She lead Buyer Abuse in Amazon’s consumer organization to prevent abuse across every Amazon product line. As director and lead strategist, she owned products and execution to reduce abuse across Amazon.

Ramona was founder & CEO for Declara, which was focused on social learning solutions and Machine Learning. Declara, based in Silicon Valley, developed Big Data analytics that provides insight to corporate and government leaders serving the public sector and beyond. Through innovative algorithms that marry cutting edge applications of artificial intelligence and cognitive science.

Ramona worked as the Chief Science Officer and Head of Policy at Promethean where they focused on building innovations for learning anytime, and anywhere.

Previously, Ramona was CEO of SynapticMash prior to being acquired by Promethean. As CEO, she was building a fast growing company specializing in development of intelligent software, development of education software, syndication of content delivery platforms for content providers, publishers and education services.

Ramona’s national and international work led her to becoming an expert on building the intelligence for gaming and simulation technologies such as personalizing the experiences for the user so they can learn information deeper and more efficiently.
