Randy Glein

Partner, Draper Fisher Jurvetson

After a big jump last year thanks to Twitter's IPO, DFJ partner Randy Glein slips back slightly on the Midas ladder. In early 2015, his later stage backing in Box paid off, following the company's very successful IPO. In addition to Box and Twitter, Glein led the fund's later stage backing of Tumblr, Tesla and SpaceX. Glein says he took a bet in 2009 when investing in Elon Musk's SpaceX after becoming interested in the company's "clean sheet of paper" design approach and disposition for innovation in a static aerospace industry. In the past year, Glein joined the boards of Anaplan, SiSense, and Avant Credit. Glein was a satellite communications engineer with GM Hughes Electronics and Martin Marietta, held a senior post at DIRECTV and later became CFO of FeedBurner, a DFJ portfolio company acquired by Google. A self-proclaimed March Madness fan, Glein makes an annual trek to the Final Four.
