Chief Marketing & Storytelling Officer at Color Of Change

Rashid Shabazz is the Chief Marketing and Storytelling Officer at Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. He oversees the group’s storytelling, branding and communications work, and leads Color Of Change Hollywood, dedicated to creating more accurate and authentic portrayals of Black people in movies and on TV.

Before joining Color Of Change, Rashid served as a program officer at the Open Society Foundations, where he helped to direct more than $100 million in grants as part of the Campaign for Black Male Achievement. As a funder, Rashid led investments in narrative change and strategic communications, commissioned research on changing perceptions around Black men, and supported a number of groundbreaking films including the Sundance award-winning American Promise.

Rashid has more than two decades experience as a grassroots media organizer and communications strategist. He holds Master’s degrees in African studies from Yale University and journalism from Columbia University. He lives with his wife and daughter.
