Raven-Symoné is an actress, singer, songwriter, producer, and noted member of the LGBTQ+ community. She began her career as a child actress, appearing as Olivia Kendall on "The Cosby Show" and Nicole Lee on "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper." As a teenager, she starred as Raven Baxter on the Disney Channel television series "That's So Raven," a role which started off as an audition for a different character in a differently titled show. This series became the highest-rated and longest-running series on Disney Channel at the time and earned her numerous accolades, including NAACP Image Awards and Emmy nominations. Since 2017, she has reprised her role as Raven Baxter and served as an executive producer on "Raven's Home."
Along with her television career, Raven-Symoné has a prominent film career which includes successful films such as Dr. Dolittle, Dr. Dolittle 2, College Road Trip, and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. She has also proven her versatility in successful television films, including Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, The Cheetah Girls, its sequel The Cheetah Girls 2, For One Night, Revenge of the Bridesmaids, and the drama film For One Night which was based on a true story. She has acted in TV shows like "Empire" and "K.C. Undercover," and even made her Broadway debut in the musical "Sister Act."
In music, Raven-Symoné released her debut studio album at the age of seven, "Here's to New Dreams," under MCA Records. Her subsequent studio albums, "Undeniable," "This Is My Time," and "Raven-Symoné," saw some commercial success on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. She also founded RayBlaze Records with her father and released new tracks "Sarafina" and "Cruise Control" in May 2016. She has not only contributed vocals to several soundtracks from her Disney projects but also provided the voice for Monique in the animated series "Kim Possible." She was also a co-host of the ABC daytime talk show "The View" from 2015 to 2016, and announced her departure to focus on her production and acting role in "Raven's Home."
Off the stage and beyond the screen, Raven-Symoné completed an associate degree in fine arts in 2016 and subsequently endorsed Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson in the 2016 presidential election. She has been open about her sexuality, commenting on the legalization of same-sex marriage in August 2013, and later got married in a secret quarantine wedding. Raven-Symoné was ranked by VH1 at number nine on their "100 Greatest Kid Stars Of All Time" list in 2012.
