While attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University, McEntire's fate took a pivotal turn when she mesmerized audiences with her rendition of the National Anthem at the National Rodeo in Oklahoma City. It was here that her exceptional talent caught the attention of Red Steagall, a prominent country artist, who recognized her potential and facilitated her transition to Nashville, Tennessee.
In 1975, McEntire inked a deal with Mercury Records, marking the inception of her illustrious career. Her debut solo album in 1977 paved the way for a string of successful releases under the label, laying the foundation for her ascent to stardom. However, it was her collaboration with MCA Nashville Records that propelled her to greater heights.
With the release of "My Kind of Country" in 1984, McEntire solidified her status as a country music luminary. The album spawned chart-topping hits such as "How Blue" and "Somebody Should Leave," establishing her as a force to be reckoned with in the industry. Over the years, she has amassed an impressive discography, with over 25 studio albums and an unparalleled collection of chart-topping singles.
