Rebecca Black

Singer-Songwriter & Cyberbullying Advocate Originally Known for "Friday"

Millions of people know Rebecca Black as the girl whose catchy song “Friday” stuck in their heads. What they don’t know about this teenager from Anaheim Hills, California, is that she has been performing since she was a toddler and is dedicated to a career in music.

She recorded her first song “Friday” and filmed a video to accompany the song thinking only her family and close friends would see and hear it. Unbeknownst to her and her parents, the video was uploaded to YouTube and went viral within a month. She was shocked by the attention the video received. Within a few short weeks, artists such as Nick and Joe Jonas tweeted the lyrics and performed “Friday” in concert, as did Justin Bieber. Lady Gaga told a group at Google headquarters, “Rebecca Black is genius.” She was booked on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show and Jay Leno invited her to be a guest on his couch, as well. Even the mega-hit TV show, “Glee,” performed “Friday.” Black was indeed an overnight star.

Rebecca then put out her second single titled “My Moment” and within the first 36 hours after release it had over 6 million views on YouTube. In 2011, she also released a third single, “Person of Interest,” and performed her hit song “Friday” on stage with Katy Perry at Perry’s sold-out concert in Los Angeles. Prior to performing with Perry on stage, she co-starred with the multi-platinum selling artist in the video for Perry’s No. 1 single “Last Friday Night.” Rebecca also won Best Web Star at the 2011 Teen Choice Awards and was named Variety’s 2011 “Youth Impact Honoree.” In addition, she is the female lead in an animated feature titled “Legend Of A Rabbit,” which will be distributed by Lionsgate and is set to release in Spring 2013.

Rebecca rounded out the year as the No. 1 fastest growing search on Google’s Zeitgeist 2011. She also landed the No. 1 spot on YouTube’s Rewind 2011 for “Friday” being the most watched video. Her fourth single, “Sing It,” was released in May of 2012 with the video debuting nationwide on E! News. In August of 2012, she had her first concert performance at the WILLWOOD 100 Concert in Wildwood, NJ alongside acts such as Hot Chelle Rae, Austin Mahone, The Ready Set and Forever The Sickest Kids.

In 2018, Black appeared as a contestant in season 2 of the reality television musical competition series The Four: Battle for Stardom, broadcast on Fox. The series is hosted by Fergie and judged by Sean Combs, Meghan Trainor and DJ Khaled. Black's newest material came in the form of three new singles throughout 2019 titled "Anyway," "Do You" and "Sweetheart."
