Founder of Roots Studio

Rebecca Hui is the founder of Roots Studio, which digitizes the work and stories of traditional artists from geographically-isolated and war-torn regions into an online cultural library for licensing into stationery, apparel, and other products. Her team has worked with over 1200 indigenous artists in India, Indonesia, and the Middle East, amongst other regions. Roots Studio has been featured or funded by Echoing Green, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, TechCrunch, The Straubel Foundation, Stanford Center for Social Innovation, The Exponential Creativity Fund, and more.

Hui has over 8 years working in urban planning, design, and art. For 2 years, she was a consultant with The World Bank to the Government of India on mapping and modeling water needs for rapidly urbanizing villages in India. Previous to that, Hui was a Fulbright Scholar and National Geographic Explorer who mapped animals in urbanizing Indian cities. Hui holds a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a B.S. in Business Administration / B.A. in Urban Studies from University of California, Berkeley.
