Reem Hajajreh

Founder of the Palestinian Organization Women of the Sun & Nobel Prize Nominee

Reem Hajajreh is the founder and director of the Palestinian organization, Women of the Sun. This organization has been instrumental in advocating for nonviolent resolutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In a historic move, Hajajreh partnered with Yael Admi, the co-founder and leader of Women Wage Peace, an Israeli movement with similar objectives. Together, they were able to organize a significant gathering in Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, where 1,500 Israeli and Palestinian women rallied to demand an end to violence and a return to negotiations.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including a massacre by Hamas militants that took the lives of three members of Women Wage Peace, the commitment of Hajajreh and her organization to a peaceful resolution remain unshaken. In a worsening situation marked by increased settler violence, retaliatory strikes, and invasion by Israel in the West Bank and Gaza, Women of the Sun along with Women Wage Peace continue to support a mutually agreed-upon, nonviolent resolution to the conflict. The two organizations jointly issued the Mothers' Call, a declaration for a peaceful resolution.

Hajajreh's and Admi's joint endeavor has been recognized on a global scale. They were invited to speak at the French Parliament, where they urged the world to encourage Israeli and Palestinian leaders to return to negotiations and political agreements. They have been nominated for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize and were named two of TIME's Women of the Year.
