Reginald Hudlin

Writer, Director and Producer; Known for "Django Unchained" &"House Party"; One Half of Hudlin Brothers Production Company

Reginald Hudlin is a film screenwriter, director and producer, and one-half of the Hudlin Brothers, along with his brother, Warrington Hudlin. From 2005 to 2008, Hudlin served as the President of Entertainment for Black Entertainment Television (BET). He co-produced the 88th Academy Awards ceremony in 2016 as well as other TV specials. Hudlin's breakout film was 1990's House Party, and he worked as a producer on Quentin Tarantino's 2012 film, Django Unchained, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. He also directed the 1992 film Boomerang.

Hudlin graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual and Environmental Studies. While a student at Harvard, Hudlin directed his thesis project, House Party, which became the basis for his popular 1990 film by the same name. House Party was based on Hudlin’s experience growing up in East St. Louis.

After college, Hudlin and his brother formed production company Hudlin Brothers and made music videos for such artists as Heavy D, Jamaica Boys, and others. Hudlin directed—with older brother Warrington producing—his first feature-length film, 1990's low-budget teen hip-hop comedy House Party, which starred Kid 'n Play. The film was, according to Variety, one of the most profitable films of the decade.

In July 2019, it was announced that Hudlin was directing an upcoming Walt Disney Pictures film, titled Safety, which would be released on Disney+.
