Applied Biologist; Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) of the United States

Renee Wegrzyn is an applied biologist who serves as the inaugural Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, a federal agency that supports transformative biomedical and health breakthroughs to provide health solutions.

Previously, Wegrzyn served as both Vice President of Business Development at Ginkgo Bioworks and and Head of Innovation at Concentric by Ginkgo as well as Program Manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Prior to joining DARPA, she led technical teams in private industry in the areas of biosecurity, gene therapies, emerging infectious disease, neuromodulation and synthetic biology, as well as research and development teams commercializing multiplex immunoassays and peptide-based disease diagnostics.

Wegrzyn received the Superior Public Service Medal for her contributions at DARPA and was a scientific advisory boardcmember for the National Academies Standing Committee on Biotechnology Capabilities and National Security Needs.
