Award-Winning Filmmaker & Director Known for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," "Knives Out," "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" & "Wake Up Dead Man"

Rian Johnson, a filmmaker and director, stepped onto the scene with his directorial debut "Brick" in 2005. His later works, such as "Looper" in 2012 and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" in 2017, propelled him further into the public eye. Johnson's mystery films "Knives Out" in 2019 and "Glass Onion" in 2022, both of which he directed, were also significant achievements. A third film in the "Knives Out Franchise" titled "Wake Up Dead Man" is set to appear in 2025 on Netflix. Johnson's involvement in television is marked by his direction of episodes for the series "Breaking Bad" and his creation of the murder mystery series "Poker Face" for Peacock with Natasha Lyonne. Time magazine recognized his influence by naming him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.

Johnson's recognition in the industry is reflected in his nominations for Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay. His film "Looper" released in 2012, was a surprise success, and his work on "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" received positive reviews. Johnson's venture into the industry's business side saw him launch T-Street, a company that generates original content for film and TV shows, in September 2019. In addition to his film work, Johnson ventured into commercial work, directing a commercial for the augmented mobile video game Pokémon Go in July 2020.

Johnson, a USC School of Cinematic Arts graduate, hails from San Clemente, California, and Silver Spring, Maryland. His directorial works have earned him numerous awards, including the Austin Film Critics Association Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2012 and Best Adapted Screenplay in 2022. He also won the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing - Drama Series in 2012. Johnson's versatility extends beyond film, as he is also a banjoist, folk singer, and postmodernist filmmaker.
