Richard Lui, a news anchor for MSNBC and NBC News since 2010, is an award-winning journalist with more than 30 years in media, technology, and business. He has been directing and producing documentaries for NBC Nightly News Films, most notably "Remember the Flowers: Atlanta Shootings 100 Days Later." Lui's journalistic career has allowed him to cover major breaking news stories, all national elections since 2004, including the 2011 debt-ceiling debate, the Arab Spring, and the deficit super committee failure. Before joining MSNBC, Lui spent five years at CNN Worldwide, where he became the first Asian American male to anchor a daily, national cable news show.
Aside from his journalism career, Lui spent 15 years in the business world, launching six brands over three tech cycles, and patenting a fintech model in 2003. He has served in various board roles, including as audit committee for a fintech firm and advisory board chair for a Silicon Valley deep learning firm. He holds board memberships with Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation and Freedom United. His contributions extend to being a Fellow at the National Association of Corporate Directors, a Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund think tank, and an ambassador for six NGOs focusing on gender equity, human trafficking, and family caregiving.
In addition to his extensive career in journalism and tech, Lui is the bestselling author of "Enough About Me: The Unexpected Power of Selflessness," a book that delves into his experiences with selflessness and caregiving. Lui's prowess in storytelling extends to the world of documentary filmmaking. He directed the feature documentary film "Sky Blossom: Diaries of the Next Greatest Generation," which won the Christopher Award, and "Hidden Wounds," a film profiling families at the intersection of mental health and caregiving. Over the years, he has also carved a niche for himself as a public speaker at community events, with over 500 appearances to his credit.
