Richard Zacks, who specializes in offbeat history, is the author of The Pirate Hunter, selected by TIME magazine as one of the best non-fiction books of 2002. His prior works include An Underground Education and History Laid Bare, which the state of Georgia considered banning from its public libraries. He's a fulltime author, lives in Pelham, NY and often flies a pirate flag to annoy the neighbors.
