Rick Kiernan

Rick Kiernan is the consumate Communicator! He has seen the World of Communications from both sides of the issue. He has been the Managing Editor of three Newspapers and a monthly Magazine, and hosted his own Public Television Show. As an Army Colonel, he served as Pentagon Spokesman during the First Gulf War and he was Spokesman for General Schwarzkopf in Saudi Arabia. Upon his retirement, he served as Director of Press Operations and Public Information for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Currently, Rick is Vice President of Strategic Communications for MPRI, an international services company based in Washington, DC. In this role he is Corporate Spokesman and is responsible for Public Affairs programs around the world. In each of these assignments, Rick has learned the importance of "Speaking With One Voice" in order to effectively communicate your Organization's Message. While at the Pentagon, it was especially challenging to articulate complex terminology to special interest Correspondents who are unfamiliar with the military Glossary and Defense Issues. Later, at the Olympics, he was responsible for establishing the Main Press Center for 5,000 journalists from 197 countries and speaking 44 languages. It was vital to ensure that Messages from the Corporate Sponsors, International Olympic Committee and Sports Federations were cogent and understood. Finally, in Corporate Strategic Communications, it is essential to be effective with International Journalists and local language barriers while coordinating media queries in twelve different countries. In each instance, Kiernan has successfully incorporated many of the same Communications skills and principles that your organization deals with every day! He attended The Virginia Military Institute receiving a Bachelors Degree in English, a Masters Degree in Mass Communications from the University of South Carolina and completed Post Graduate study at The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
