Rick Rashid's presentations focus heavily on new technology, particularly ones that discuss on data visualization, artificial intelligence and operating systems. He joined Microsoft Research in September 1991 and in 2000, he was promoted to Chief Research Officer.

Graduating from Stanford University with degrees in Mathematics and Comparative Literature, Rick Rashid moved on to complete a Master's of Science as well as a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Rochester. He continued to teach at Carnegie Mellon University and there, he developed his most notable work, the Mach multiprocessor operating system.

His extensive research and prolific works have garnered him multiple opportunities and exposure in the technology world. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his impressive accomplishments to the technological community, winning multiple awards such as the National Academy of Engineering, SIGOPS Hall of Fame Award and Microsoft Technical Recognition Award to name a few.
