Rick Springfield is a Grammy Award-winning Australian singer-songwriter, musician, and actor known for his hit single "Jessie's Girl." A member of the pop-rock group Zoot from 1969 to 1971, he began his career as a charismatic teen idol. His debut solo single, "Speak to the Sky," reached the top 10 in Australia. In mid-1972, he relocated to the U.S., adopting a new wave and power pop sound. Springfield's success skyrocketed with "Jessie's Girl," which earned him a Grammy for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in 1981. He achieved further success with hits like "I've Done Everything for You," "Don't Talk to Strangers," "Affair of the Heart," and "Love Somebody," and top 10 albums like 1981's "Working Class Dog" and 1982's "Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet."
As an actor, Springfield has been versatile, taking roles such as Dr. Noah Drake on "General Hospital," Dr. Pitlor in HBO's "True Detective," and opposite Meryl Streep in "Ricki and the Flash." He also portrayed Lucifer in The CW's "Supernatural" and Pastor Charles in "American Horror Story: Cult."
Springfield's personal challenges, including battles with depression, have been a significant part of his life, which he openly discussed in his 2010 autobiography "Late, Late at Night: A Memoir." His commitment to mental health advocacy continues to be a key aspect of his career. In recognition of his contributions to music and entertainment, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2014. His latest musical work, "The Snake King," showcases a blues-infused rock 'n roll style, reflecting his artistic evolution. Springfield continues to record and perform, maintaining a strong connection with his audience through his music and advocacy work.
