Former B.R.A.V.E. Youth Leader; Violence & Gun Control Activist

Rie'Onna Holman was part of the B.R.A.V.E Youth Leaders. B.R.A.V.E. (Bold Resistance Against Violence Everywhere) is a group of young people, ages 13 to 21, committed to promoting peace and bringing about positive change in their city and around the country.

As an activist, Holman has committed herself to the fight to create a better society for the following generations to come.

She graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2024.

2018, March For Our Lives and The B.R.A.V.E. Youth Leaders
ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN – Two youth advocacy groups that are focused on ending gun violence in their communities will be awarded the 2018 Wallenberg Medal from the University of Michigan. The winners of this year’s medal will be The B.R.A.V.E. (Bold Resistance Against Violence Everywhere) Youth Leaders of the Faith Community of St. Sabina from Chicago and March For Our Lives from Parkland, Florida.

“We all have the power to make a difference. But being a changemaker is not going to be easy,” said CAS student speaker Rie’Onna Holman, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Secondary English Language Arts. “It requires perseverance in the face of adversity, resilience in the face of failure and an unwavering determination to pursue our goals despite the obstacles that may stand in our way.”

To Rie’onna Holman, the solution to violence in Chicago and mass shootings is simple: stricter gun laws.
