Riki Wilchins

Comic and LGBT Activist

Riki Wilchins is just what America needed but didn't know it wanted: a lesbian Jewish comic with a sex-change and an attitude. Equal parts outraged and outrageous, activist/provocateur Riki Wilchins takes dead aim at the gender system, sex change doctors, "LGBTQ rights," Viagra, and third wave feminism in a no-holds-barred evening of humor, sketch and improvisation that leaves no rhinestone unturned and no slip showing.

Founder of the protest group Transexual Menace and the national advocacy organization GenderPAC, Wilchens' work has been profiled by the New York Times and TIME Magazine has selected her one of 100 Civic Innovators for the 21st Century. Her edgy, provocative performances and speeches are popular with college groups and local events, as well as with a wide variety of organizations, from the NEA, NOW, and the Human Rights Campaign to JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup, and IBM.

The author of three books on gender "Read My Lips: Sexual Subversion & the End of Gender," "Queer Theory/Gender Theory: An Instant Primer," and "GenderQueer: Voices from Beyond the Sexual Binary," Wilchins has been a regular columnist for The Advocate on gender issues. Her humor and non-fiction have been published widely in magazines like the Village Voice, Social Text, Curve, and Girlfriends, as well as anthologies like "Woman on Woman," "Pomosexuals," and "Out at Work."
