First Round Partner Rob Hayes has risen on the Midas list with the success of his early investments, Uber Technologies. Hayes got in when Uber was worth $4 million, and it's now valued at over $40 billion. He was a first round investor in Square, which is valued at $6 billion. In the past year, he's invested in Lob, Swift Navigation, Eero, BloomThat and Reserve. Hayes scored in 2009 when Intuit bought his portfolio company Mint.com for $170 million. Hayes started out as a trade consultant focused on Japan and moved into product development at Geoworks and Go Corp. He later started Palm's corporate venture fund. He was the first venture investor at Omidyar Network before joining First Round's office in San Francisco. Haynes helped start an early CrossFit gym, but had to quit due to an injury. Now he's back at it and injury free.
