Rob Lowe is an American actor, filmmaker, and podcast host. He made his acting debut at the age of 15 with ABC's sitcom "A New Kind of Family." Throughout his career, he gained prominence as a teen idol and member of the Brat Pack in the 1980s, with notable roles in films such as "The Outsiders," "Class," "The Hotel New Hampshire," "Oxford Blues," and "St. Elmo's Fire." His acting career experienced a resurgence in the 2000s with his role as Sam Seaborn on the NBC political drama "The West Wing."
Aside from his acting career, Lowe has also ventured into filmmaking. In 2018, he made his directorial debut with the television film "The Bad Seed." He has also executive produced shows like "The Lyon's Den," "Dr. Vegas," and "The Pro." In addition to acting and directing, Lowe is also a published author, having written two memoirs, "Stories I Only Tell My Friends" and "Love Life."
Lowe has been recognized for his work, having received several award nominations, including Golden Globe Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. He also received the Horatio Alger Award in 2018 for overcoming personal challenges and achieving success. Notably, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2015.
Lowe has been involved in numerous television series throughout his career, including "Brothers & Sisters," "Parks and Recreation," "Code Black," and "9-1-1: Lone Star". He also stars in the ITV drama "Wild Bill" and hosts the reality competition show "Mental Samurai." Currently, he hosts two highly acclaimed podcasts: "Literally! With Rob Lowe," on which he interviews leaders in the world of entertainment, and "Parks and Recollection," co-hosted with showrunner Alan Yang.
Off-screen, Lowe is involved in charitable activities and is a founder of the Homeowner's Defense Fund, a Santa Barbara County non-profit organization. He was the first male spokesperson for the 2000 Lee National Denim Day fundraiser for breast cancer research and education, a cause close to his heart after losing his grandmother and mother to the disease. He has also launched a skincare line called "Profile by Rob Lowe" and a fragrance product line called 18 Amber Wood with the Profile brand.
