Stand-Up Comedian, Singer & Actor

Robert Klein is a comedian, actor, and singer known for his sharp observational humor and influential stand-up career. Born in The Bronx, New York, he rose to fame in the 1970s with his smart, satirical style, influencing a generation of comedians. A former member of Second City, Klein became one of the first comedians to have an HBO stand-up special, helping to shape modern stand-up comedy.

Klein's comedic prowess is evident in his four stand-up comedy albums: A Child of the 50s (1973), Mind Over Matter (1974), New Teeth (1975), and Let's Not Make Love (1990). He hosted "Saturday Night Live" in its first season, 1975, and again in 1978.

In film, Klein appeared in "The Owl and the Pussycat," "Mixed Nuts," "One Fine Day," "Primary Colors," "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," and "Reign Over Me." His television work includes recurring roles in "Law & Order: SVU", "The Good Wife", "Madam Secretary", and the revival of "Will & Grace." He also found success on stage. Making his Broadway debut in the 1966 production of "The Apple Tree" opposite Alan Alda, he earned a Tony Award nomination in 1979 for his performance in Neil Simon's musical comedy "They're Playing Our Song."

Klein has been acknowledged with two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his comedy specials. His career and influence were profiled in the 2016 Starz documentary "Robert Klein Still Can't Stop His Leg."
