Robert H. Socolow is professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Princeton University, where he teaches in both the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.

Socolow is professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Princeton University, where he teaches in both the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Together with ecologist Stephen Pacala he leads Princeton’s Carbon Mitigation Initiative. His current research focuses on technology and policy for fossil fuels under climate constraints, global carbon management, and the hydrogen economy. Recognized for his leadership in establishing energy and environmental problems as legitimate research fields for physicists and for demonstrating that these problems can be addressed with the highest scientific standards, he has written widely on global warming and solving the climate problem.
