Music Director, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; 2011 Harman-Eisner Artist-in-Residence

Robert Spano is music director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, where he has enriched and expanded its repertoire through innovative programming. Earlier this year, Spano was named music director-designate of the Aspen Music Festival and School where he will assume the title of music director in 2012. H is a Harman-Eisner artist in residence at the Aspen Institute. With a discography of 16 critically acclaimed recordings for Telarc and Deutsche Grammophon recorded over nine years, Spano has won six Grammy Awards with the Atlanta Symphony. Spano is in the second year of his three-year residency at Emory University. In its 165-year history, Emory has honored only seven other individuals with such expansive residencies, including the Dalai Lama, President Jimmy Carter, and author Salman Rushdie. Musical America’s 2008 Conductor of the Year, Spano is on the faculty of Oberlin Conservatory.
