Roberta Sandenbergh

AIA Architect

Roberta Sandenbergh is an American architect who was born in Brooklyn, studied at Vassar College and graduated from Pratt Institute. She married a South African architect and spent most of her professional life in his country. Specializing in residential design, one of her projects won a Civic Design Award and two were featured in magazines: Garden & Home and Habitat.

Her professional career took a brief detour when she became a beta tester for AutoCAD, the popular U.S. software program and was so enthusiastic about Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) that she brought AutoCAD to Africa and spent much of her time spreading the word, giving lectures and CAD demonstrations.

Roberta always enjoyed maximizing living spaces for herself and her clients and has written many illustrated columns on space saving ideas. They appeared in the Johannesburg Star, SA City Life, the Home Handyman; as well as the Washington Post and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Her book, “Small Space Living”, was published in 2018 by Skyhorse Publishing in New York City. It won both an Independent Publishers Association Medal and a Nautilus Book Award.
