Vice President, Tivoli Autonomic Computing and Shared Integration Components IBM

John Kogel is Vice President of IBM’s Tivoli Autonomic Computing and Shared Integration Components. In this role, John leads three major initiatives for Tivoli and IBM. They include Development transformation, Development IT Services, and lifecycle management of Tivoli’s integration platform and shared components.

Previously, John was Vice President of Tivoli’s Service Availability and Performance Management (SAPM) development organization. He John has led the SAPM team to deliver an integrated set of products that exceed market requirements. Organizationally, he has led his team through a transition of agile development to achieve closer relationships between customers and product development. In addition to agile development and introducing easy-to-use tool kits, John has improved collaboration with customers through the use of Web 2.0 technology. His leadership around portfolio simplification, platform independence, and critical technology initiatives has enhanced customer value and experience.

Prior to that, John was Director of Tivoli’s Availability and Business Services Management (ABSM) Development organization. In this role, John was responsible for managing the development of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Business Services Management, IT Service Management, Monitoring Best Practices, and Business Partner enablement.

He led the team to develop and support existing and new products in the ABSM space, heading the integration with other pillars across the IBM software group and Global Services and Systems Technology Group. John led the IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.1 development effort. He directed the development of the SOA and Business Services Management solutions. Both areas are emerging opportunities in a growing market. John led the Business Partner enablement group to drive new monitoring solutions into new channels. John was also responsible for the integration of two recent acquisitions, Collation and a component of MUSE.

Preceding IBM, John was at Candle Corporation from 1986 to 2004, having served the last five years as Vice President of Research and Development. At Candle, John focused on developing monitoring solutions, as well as developing application integration solutions including CL/Supersession and Roma, an early SOA platform for application integration. With IBM’s acquisition of Candle, John led the integration of Candle products into the IBM portfolio. The portfolio included zOS solutions such as the OMEGAMON and Distributed based solutions including ITM and ITCAM.
