Romina Boccia
Research Coordinator
Romina Boccia, an economist, is research coordinator for the Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies at The Heritage Foundation. Boccia works on a wide range of economic issues, including federal spending, taxes, entitlements, energy and environment, and regulation. She is among the authors of two of Heritage’s most visual and popular reports: Federal Budget in Pictures and Federal Spending by the Numbers. Boccia has been published and quoted in magazines and newspapers such as The Atlantic, The Washington Times, The Washington Examiner and The Orange County Register, and by online news venues such as Townhall.com and TheDaily.com. Joining Heritage in May 2011, Boccia became an associate at the Charles Koch Institute, where she immersed herself for a year in market-based management, the holistic approach that built the world's largest private company. She previously worked as a policy analyst at the Independent Women’s Forum and interned at the Cato Institute’s Center for Trade Policy Studies. Boccia received her master’s degree in economics from George Mason University (GMU) in Fairfax, Va. She also holds a bachelor of science degree in economics from GMU, where she minored in data analysis and was honored with the Richard J. Ernst Award for Scholastic Achievement. She was a fellow in the GMU Writing Center’s “Writing Across the Curriculum” program, rated one of the top 20 such programs in America. Her essay on the financial crisis of 2008 won the F.A. Hayek Essay Award. Boccia is a founding member of Liberty Toastmasters, whose mission is to develop public speaking and leadership skills as well as the ability to persuasively communicate the moral and economic case for individual freedom, free enterprise and limited government. Boccia, who was born and grew up in Augsburg, Germany, currently resides with her husband in Clinton, Md.
