Ron Schara

Writer & Television Personality; Known for "Minnesota Bound"

As a writer and television personality, Ron Schara has been sharing the great outdoor experience with readers and viewers for over four decades. Inspired by news programs such as "20/20" and "60 Minutes", Schara created and hosted "Minnesota Bound", an outdoor adventure TV program, alongside his black lab Raven. Over the seasons, "Minnesota Bound" has been enjoyed by millions of outdoor enthusiasts who share his passion for the outdoor lifestyle, and the wonders of nature.

Schara's knowledge and understanding of our natural surroundings is more than just a journalist's assignment. Born in Postville, Iowa, he grew up loving the outdoors, and in 1966 graduated with degrees in journalism and fish/wildlife biology from Iowa State.

In 1968, Ron became an outdoor columnist for the Minneapolis Tribune, a position that eventually led him into radio and television. Today Ron is founder and executive producer of Ron Schara Enteprises, a full-service video production company with six Emmy Awards. The company's video programs have aired on a variety of networks, including NBC, History Channel, ESPN2, Outdoor Channel, Versus and many other local broadcast markets.

After 24 years on the air, Schara stepped down as the host of the country's most popular outdoor television programs, "Minnesota Bound" in 2018. His daughter Laura and Bill Sherck - longtime fixtures on "Minnesota Bound" - will take his place as hosts.

In 2019, Schara was appointed to the Outdoor Heritage Council by the Senate.
