Stand-Up Comedian & Actor Known for "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah"

Roy Wood Jr. is an American comedian, actor, and writer, best known for his sharp, socially conscious humor and his role as a correspondent on “The Daily Show”.

Wood started performing stand-up comedy while attending Florida A&M University, where he majored in broadcast journalism. After graduating, he pursued comedy full-time, gaining popularity on the college comedy circuit and through radio, particularly on the nationally syndicated “The Tom Joyner Morning Show”. His career gained further momentum after he became a finalist on “Last Comic Standing” in 2010.

In 2015, Wood joined “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” where he became known for his satirical reporting on topics like racial inequality, the justice system, and national politics. His work on “The Daily Show” earned him critical acclaim, and he became a standout star on the show, contributing to its coverage of major political events and producing segments that highlight underrepresented perspectives.

In addition to his role on “The Daily Show,” Wood has appeared in several television shows, including “Better Call Saul” and “The Last O.G.,” and films like “Confess, Fletch” and “The Opening Act”. He has also released multiple comedy specials, including “Father Figure” (2017) and “No One Loves You” (2019), which showcase his unique blend of personal storytelling and biting social commentary.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Wood was raised by a mother who worked as a college administrator and a father who was a pioneering Black radio journalist. His father's work as a news director and reporter, who covered civil rights events, had a profound influence on Wood's comedic perspective, often tackling race relations, politics, and social justice issues.
