Sabrina Weill

Expert on Teenagers

Sabrina Weill is an author and the former editor-in-chief of Seventeen magazine. Weill's third book, The Real Truth about Teens and Sex, tells parents what's really going on in their teenagers' minds, hearts, and bedrooms--and gives down-to-earth advice to help parents talk about sex the "right" way, so their teens listen and make smart choices. While writing it, Weill interviewed hundreds of teenagers and conducted a national survey of 1,059 teens in partnership with The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

Weill is presently traveling the country, from Bergen County, New Jersey to Huntington Beach, California, talking to groups of parents, doctors, journalists and teachers about how to communicate with teenagers about sex. She has heard and answered all kinds of questions, from "Are these teen-sex parties I keep hearing about for real??" to "What if my teenager asks me when I lost MY virginity??"

Weill has connected with millions of teenagers over the past 10+ years as a teen magazine editor and writer. Prior to becoming editor-in-chief of Seventeen, she was instrumental in the launch of CosmoGIRL! magazine where she served as founding executive editor for four years. Weill was previously an editor at Redbook and has served as editor-in-chief of the Scholastic teen health magazines Choices.

She began her career as an editorial assistant at Seventeen, choosing which "Sex and Body" letters the column would address each month. She watched those letters evolve from loopy, green-penned notes asking about the mechanics of sex, to today's emails with queries like "I just had sex and the condom broke--I'm 15--what can I do?"

She has appeared on numerous national TV shows including The Today Show and The Early Show and in many local and national papers including USA Today and The Washington Post. At its first printing, The Real Truth about Teens and Sex was excerpted in Time magazine.

Weill is also the author of The Seventeen Guide to Sex and Your Body and We're Not Monsters: Teens Speak Out About Teens in Trouble.
